Texas Medicaid (STAR) and Addiction Treatment

Texas Medicaid, run through the STAR managed care program, is the primary public coverage option for addiction treatment in the state. Medicaid programs of this kind are generally required to cover core substance use disorder services — medical detox, outpatient counseling, residential or inpatient treatment, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using medications like buprenorphine, methadone, or naltrexone for opioid use disorder.
